Coaching Staff

Calvin has served as the head coach of the Sabers for 7 seasons. During that time he has helped lead the team to a AA State Consolation Championship, Section 2AA Championship and two consecutive South Suburban Conference Championships.

With a top-down leadership approach, Calvin is actively involved in the Shakopee Youth Hockey Association working to help grow the game of hockey at all levels in Shakopee.

Calvin grew up in Shakopee, where he played youth and high school hockey. As a junior, he helped lead the boys high school team to our first ever Section Championship and State Tournament Appearance. After high school, Calvin accepted a scholarship to play Division-2 College Football at Concordia University, St. Paul where he graduated with a BA in Business.

He resides in Shakopee, with his wife (Whitney), their son (Cyrus), and daughter (Winnie) along with their two dogs (Huxlee & Lincoln) and their cat (Bootsy). 

Bubba has coached for 7 seasons with the Sabers. He was an assistant with the Junior Varsity team prior to becoming the Junior Varsity Head Coach.

Coach Bubba is a Shakopee High School alumnus and former player for the Saber hockey program (2010-2014). As a player, he received MVP and All-Conference awards, and was an Assistant Captain in his Senior year.

Coach Bubba’s love for hockey is big, but his love for Shakopee is even bigger. 

He has a B.A. from the University of St. Thomas. Bubba Kubes is a realtor at Kubes Realty. Bubba's main goal in life is to bring people closer to Jesus. He hopes to be a good example for his athletes and lead them to live a solid Christian life.

Bubba resides in Shakopee (where he was born and raised) with his wife (Maggie), their two sons (Brooks & Tommy), and their two dogs.
